Spawning a Token

Spawning a token is how a new market begins on Spawn. It's the act of initiating a token concept, setting its parameters, and opening it to community participation through the bonding curve phase.

What You're Actually Doing

When you spawn a token, you're not just naming an asset - you're opening a question to the market: is there real conviction here? The bonding curve phase that follows is the market's answer.

This is different from how most launchpads work. On Spawn, there's no pre-mine, no insider allocation, and no team supply set aside before anyone else sees the token. What you set up at spawn is the starting point for an open, fair market.

Setting Up Your Token

To spawn a token you'll define:

  • Name and ticker - the token's identity
  • Description - what this token is about, what community it's for, what conviction it represents
  • Image - the visual identity
  • Graduation destination - where the token will deploy on-chain if it graduates. In Spawn v1 the options are Base or Ethereum. You can set this yourself or open it to a community vote - in which case your community decides the destination during the bonding curve phase.

Clarity matters here more than hype. A description that tells a real story about what the token represents will build more durable community than one that oversells.

The Spawner's First Buy

When you spawn a token, you have the option to make the first buy - up to 2% of total supply. This isn't mandatory, and it isn't a special allocation. It's an opportunity to put skin in the game at the same price and on the same terms as everyone who comes after you.

Taking the first buy is a conviction signal. It tells the community that the person starting this token believes in it enough to participate from the first moment - not just to launch it and step back. Skipping it is equally valid; the market will form either way. But a spawner who buys alongside their community starts with a meaningful alignment that carries weight.

What Happens Next

Once a token is spawned, it enters the bonding curve phase - immediately open for trading, with no on-chain deployment yet. Price discovery begins in real time. The community starts forming. Conviction is tested.

tip

The strongest token launches on Spawn aren't the ones with the loudest launch - they're the ones with the clearest community proposition and the most durable conviction behind them.
